Overview

I’ve gone to HitStreak Baseball Academy dozens of times and this place is easily one of my favorites when it comes to batting cages. The facility is large, the staff is friendly, and there are many cages, so players can usually find an available cage. This place also seems to have the newest equipment out of all the batting cages around the Denver area.

HitStreak offers HitTrax as part of their ProBatter and I highly recommend trying this out. It’s a lot of fun to see how well you would have hit the ball if you were batting in any of the MLB stadiums. HitTrax also tracks information like launch angle, velocity, etc. Although using the ProBatter with HitTrax on a consistent basis would get quite expensive, it’s something all baseball players should try out at least once.

HitStreak Baseball Academy was previously located within the Arapahoe Sports Center in Centennial, CO. But as of January 30, 2023, they moved to their new location at 7104 S Dillon Ct, Englewood, CO 80112.

Overview

Premier West Baseball and Softball Club is probably the batting cage facility I’ve been to the most in the Denver area. When I used to work around that area, it was very convenient for me to stop by after work and train with a private instructor.

One thing I really like about this place is that they are open a lot more than other batting cages. Other batting cages seem to have varying hours of operation, but Premier West seems to be open the most. I think they also have the most consistent hours of operation too.

Overall, the facility is nice. The bottom part of the facility is where your traditional batting cages are located, but they also have 2 indoor pitching tunnels upstairs for pitchers to practice. This facility also shares a small parking lot with a roofing company, so sometimes parking can be tight.

At one point I think Premier West had a way to schedule online, but I was not able to find any information on their website about making an appointment online. So it looks like the only way to schedule a cage is to give them a call.

3) Legends Baseball & Softball Academy

Overview

Overall, I’ve been happy with my experience at Legends. It’s a fairly big facility and it’s in a great location within Denver. Legends also shares a building with Niks Performance Training Facility, which is a small gym that is run by former WNBA player, Nikki Rouillard.

One thing people might like is that Legends offers a platinum membership that allows you access to both the batting cages and Niks gym. I don’t have experience with this gym, but it looks like Niks will help you become a better baseball player or softball player with sport-specific programs that will help you become a better player.

How to Schedule a Cage

The only way to schedule a tunnel online is to be a member. Otherwise, you’ll have to walk in and see what is available.

I was chatting with the person at the front desk and he was showing me how members can schedule a cage online. Legends will give their members access to a Google Spreadsheet that lists out all the availability. Members will be able to pick and choose the times from that Google Spreadsheet.

On the other hand, non-members are still able to use tunnels, but they need to physically walk into the building to see what is available. The guy at the front desk mentioned that Legends doesn’t really have a phone number. So that means the phone number I found listed on their Google business page won’t work (I actually tried calling it and no one picked up).

4) PLAY BALL! Baseball and Softball Academy

Overview

I didn’t know what to expect when I first went to Play Ball, but I was pleasantly surprised. The facility is quite large, there’s a lot of availability, and it’s a great place to practice by yourself.

They have 2 HitTrax cages available – one is in cage #4 for their standard cages and the other is a room they named the HitTrax Stadium, which is a dedicated room with one cage that includes HitTrax. I haven’t had the chance to hit in their HitTrax Stadium, but I’ve walked by it and it simply looks cool.

One thing to note about this place is that the Iron Mike cages are not able to be booked in advance and you must pay for tokens with cash. So if you want to practice by yourself, you’ll need to show up and use these cages with anyone else that might also be there. The good news is that the prices for tokens are cheap.

5) Slammers Baseball South

Overview

I had always heard great things about Slammers so I already knew they had a good reputation for baseball and softball training, but I didn’t realize just how great their facility was until I visited it myself.

Slammers has 10 indoor batting tunnels and it looked like each tunnel had an L-screen and a pitching mound included. Slammers also has a full-sized weight room and I think their weight room might actually be bigger than the one I go to.

On top of having a large indoor facility, they also have a large outdoor turf field just to the side of their building. This turf field has a full-sized infield, but it only extends about 50 to 100 feet into the outfield. So the outfield fence is maybe 120 feet from home plate, but this outdoor turf area is a really cool place to practice.

I would also classify Slammers as a semi-private club. I was chatting with an employee and it sounds like Slammers is mainly booked with their teams throughout the week. Their availability to the public depends on a lot of things, but you can always call or email to find out what their schedule looks like. I would definitely rank Slammers higher on this list if they made it easier to figure out their availability.

6) FAST Baseball Development

Overview

FAST Baseball Development is not a traditional batting cage facility. This place offers an all-around training program to help baseball players be the best player they can be. They have trainers, batting cages, and a weight room that are available to their athletes.

I was able to email the owner of the facility and he did let me know they had some cages available. So it’s possible to get some cages booked if you send an email, but I have not hit in their batting cages yet. With that being said, I’ve walked through their facility and this looks like a top-notch facility that is serious about baseball training. This is the type of place that I’d love for my son to train.

7) Pioneer Park Batting Cages

Overview

These batting cages are located in the middle of a very nice public park that includes facilities such as a small water park, basketball courts, a skatepark, and baseball fields.

I’ve been to these batting cages a handful of times and I have not had any issues with these cages. In fact, I’ve met my dad here a couple of times so we could get in some swings before we played in a father/son baseball tournament.

While this place is nice, there are at least two things to keep in mind. One is that this place only accepts cash. The other is that they sometimes are not open when Google says they are.

There was one time I showed up to these cages when they were supposed to open at noon, but no employees showed up. I waited until 12:20 before I decided to finally leave. And if you look through some of the reviews on Google, you’ll see some people had the exact same issue of showing up when Google said they were open, but the place is actually closed when they got there.

8) Batting Cages At Schaefer

Overview

One of the nice things about the batting cages at Schaefer park is that there are 9 stations available and all 9 stations are equipped to throw softballs and baseballs. When you compare this setup to other outdoor batting cages around the Denver area, which have specific stations for baseball or softball, Schaefer wins when it comes to convenience because you don’t have to wait as long for a specific station to open up.

However, just like with the other outdoor batting cages, there are plenty of times when a station will malfunction.

One of the attendants I was chatting with let me know that it will vary from day to day on which stations work and which stations won’t, but just let them know and they’ll do their best to try to fix the issue. And if that doesn’t work then you can always try another station.

9) Hit Dingers Baseball Academy

Overview

I’ve been to these batting cages multiple times with my team and overall, it’s a nice facility. However, the last time I tried visiting this facility it looked like it closed down permanently.

There used to be a big blue awning outside of their facility that said their company name, but at the time of this article, that awning is no longer there. So the entrance now looks like it’s an abandoned building.

However, I did take a peek through the front door and I did see the same batting cage equipment in the building. So if it turns out they temporarily shut down and they’re going to re-open, I would end up recommending this place.

From what I remember about this place, I didn’t see any automated pitching machines, so it might not be the best bet for someone looking to train by themselves. However, I did see some pitching machines that require someone to feed it baseballs, so players have the option of bringing along a friend or family member who is willing to feed the pitching machine.

How to Schedule

While I haven’t personally scheduled a cage, my teammates have and it sounds like the best way to book a batting cage is to call. However, my teammates sometimes have difficulty reaching anyone to schedule cages.

10) The Batting Cages at Cornerstone Park

Honestly, I struggled with the idea of including these batting cages in a “best of” list because of how many times I’ve been frustrated with these cages simply not working, but I decided to include these batting cages in this list because they do offer some of the lowest batting cage prices around the Denver area.

They give you tokens and one token will get you 16 pitches. Usually, I’ll get the “double hit” package, which includes 5 tokens.

The biggest struggle with these batting cages is that they stop working. In fact, there was one time I went to these cages and cages number 3, 4, 5, and 6 were all not working. The person at the counter tried to fix the cages, but after multiple times of me going to the counter about broken machines and multiple times of that person trying to fix the cages, I just left.

However, even with my frustration with these batting cages, chances are that I’ll be returning here for some batting practice. After all, the prices here are hard to beat and it’s one of the few places where it’s very easy to get in batting practice by yourself.

11) Hype Athletix Training Facility

Overview

This facility goes at the bottom of this list because of my experience with trying to book a tunnel. I’ll write about my story with this facility below, but you’ll also want to take into consideration that this facility has close to a 5-star review on its Google business page. So I think it’s entirely possible that my experience was an outlier.

The biggest thing that sparked my interest in trying to book a tunnel here is that their website claimed they had the lowest prices in the area. I had also driven by this place multiple times so I wanted to at least try it out.

After calling multiple times when their Google Business page said they were open, I got sent to their voicemail multiple times. I had also tried stopping by their facility once when their Google Business page stated they were open, but the doors were locked.

After doing some research online, I saw that they had an online scheduling system. So I went to their online scheduling system and booked an appointment for about 3 or 4 days into the future. I received automated emails confirming my purchase, confirming the date and time, and I even received email reminders about my appointment.

When I showed up on the day of my appointment, the facility was closed and no one was there. I then tried calling the number, got directed to voicemail again, and left a message asking if I could get a refund.

I received a text message the next day that apologized for the confusion and they let me know they were in the process of changing over their website. That person asked if I wanted a refund via Venmo or via the system. I asked for a refund via the system and they let me know they would get it processed that day. As of this post, I still haven’t received that refund. To be fair, the refund was for a little over $10 so it’s not a big loss.

It also looks like that same scheduling system I used is no longer accessible through their website so hopefully, this same thing won’t happen to someone else.

But nonetheless, the biggest reasons this facility is at the bottom of my list are because I still have no idea how to schedule a tunnel and I have no idea what their hours of operations are – the only place that lists out any information is their Facebook page, which is sparse on information. But it looks like if you can get those two issues sorted out, you should be able to book some cages at the lowest rate in the Denver area.
