No mention of Harris at Swift's Miami concerts, but DNC released Swift-themed Snapchat filter (2024)

In September, shortly after the presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, Taylor Swift announced that she plans to vote for Harris.

Swifties saw many of their predictions for the final leg of Swift’s “Eras Tour” come to fruition over the weekend at her Miami shows, including the last rain show of the tour, a surprise visit from Florence Welch and a new wardrobe for Swift.

But one prediction that didn’t come true was the suspicion that Harris herself would make an appearance or be mentioned during one of the three concerts Swift played in Trump's home state last weekend. One of those concerts even landed on Harris’s birthday, which gave fans more leverage in their theory.

Harris didn’t make an appearance at the concert and Swift didn’t mention the election, but Swifties are still expected to hit the polls in full-force this election season. The DNC announced last week (the day of Swift’s first Miami concert) that it’s rolling out a Swift-inspired youth voter campaign with a new Snapchat filter and ads directing to IWillVote.com

Here’s what we know about Swift’s connections to the election and what to know about the DNC’s new campaign targeting Swifties.

Did Kamala Harris make an ‘Eras Tour’ appearance? No. Here’s why fans thought she might

Swifties thought the show might see an appearance from Harris, since Swift endorsed the VP just a few weeks earlier, and because Taylor’s final Miami show was on Harris’s 60th birthday (Sunday, Oct. 20).

Following September's presidential date between Harris and former President Donald Trump, Swift shared in an Instagram post that she was voting for Harris.

"I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election," Swift said to her more than 283 million followers. "I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos."

What is ‘In my voting era’ about? What to know about the DNC’s new Swiftie-forward campaign

On the day of Swift’s first Miami concert last week, the DNC announced a new Taylor Swift-themed “I will vote” campaign.

“Today, with Taylor Swift set to perform in Miami, the DNC launched a Taylor Swift-themed ‘I Will Vote’ campaign targeting youth voters across the battleground states,” the DNC’s announcement said.

“The campaign includes an exclusive new Snapchat filter urging young voters to be ‘fearless’ on the issues that will decide this election – from reproductive rights to economic opportunity – and visit IWillVote.com to learn how to cast their ballot for Vice President Harris this November.”

Although Harris wasn’t at Swift’s Miami concerts in person, she was definitely there in spirit – the campaign said in its announcement that there was a “mobile billboard on a boat near Swift’s concert venue in Miami (and) billboards all across Miami.”

How to use the Taylor Swift-inspired Kamala Harris “In my voting era” filter on Snapchat

It’s unclear how Snapchat users can find the filter. Searches like “fearless,” “voting,” “voting era,” “DNC,” “Taylor Swift,” “I will vote” and “Kamala” in Snapchat’s filter search tool didn’t populate any results that showed the filter the DNC is promoting.

If you can find the filter, it features customizable text. At the top, it says “In My Voting Era” and then has a fill in the blank portion that users can tap through, which looks something like this, according to the DNC’s announcement:

Be fearless for ________________ (Users can tap through)

  • Democracy
  • Reproductive rights
  • Climate action
  • Student loan debt relief
  • Health care
  • Racial justice
  • LGBTQ+ rights
  • Economic opportunity
  • Equality

“And a reminder to vote for Democrats, with a link to IWillVote.com at the bottom of the page,” the announcement said.
