How long do you leave Aveda toner on? ›

To use, simply apply to hair, leave it on for up to three minutes (depending on your desired amount of neutralization) and rinse.

If you let the dye sit for a lot longer than it's supposed to, the only risk is that it might look a little darker than you wanted. Sadly you can't dye dark dyed hair any lighter, that's only possible after six to eight weeks after dyeing. That's why we advise you to opt for a lighter colour if you have any doubts.
